Two years ago I was approached by the London Stock Exchange to design a new course for one of their clients. We want a course which will introduce newcomers to the world of professional finance. I thought hard about this and what should be included in this broad brief: Equities, Funds of all types, Bonds, FX, Derivatives, Regulation, Risk, Fundamentals and Technicals and even Property, Pension Funds and Insurance. A lot for someone to learn. This is all covered in the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments’ Level 3 course, International Introduction to Securities and Investment. Why reinvent something which is done well and kept up to date. Also, there is an exam a qualification which can help people start the careers in the industry.
I suggested to them, as an Accredited Training Provider of the CISI, I can run their course as the Institutional Trader Programme with the support fo the London Stock Exchange and the CISI. We ran the first one two years ago – a great success with attendees from Europe Asia and Africa. Nearly all who took the exam passed it. We ran it again earlier this year and ALL passed. we are clearly getting better. We will run it again in November. You can see it listed on our Course Calendar. You can download a fact sheet HERE and see a great little video HERE. I have two ‘silver-haired’ experts who assist me during the 5-day course. Students do not have to listen to me alone. Besides, they are real experts on Risk and Derivatives. They are better qualified to cover these to sections than I.
I urge you to take a look at this programme for your colleagues, those new to the industry, moving from the mid-office to the front-office. Anyone who needs a comprehensive grounding in professional financial services before specialising and who would like a recognised qualification.
I hope to see you or collages at the LSE in November.
